I wasn't going to add the FX4 package when I ordered my truck. I was getting 4x4 and locking rear is standard with the 3.73 & 7.3 gas. I was upgrading the stock A/S tires to the A/T tires at $265, I was adding the skid plates on at $100 so theres $365 for $35 dollars more why not just add the entire package as a whole.
The FX4 with the AT tires would be $665. Skid Plates and AT tires would be $365. Still $300 difference. The ATs aren't included with FX4, they are required.
Scraprat - Thank you for reminding us of that issue. I recall there being an offset that dramatically reduced the net cost of the FX4. Now I think I remember that the FX4 package also included the upgraded all terrain tires. So if a guy was not upgrading the tires elsewhere the tire upgrade would be part of the value in the FX4 package. Thanks again!
That is not true, the A/T tires are not included in the $400 FX4, they are a perquisite that you pay for in addition to the package. Same with the rear locker.
It's not so much of what's "included" as to what's " required" as can be seen here,
That's why when building your truck it might be "cheaper" and easier to just add a package than peace mealing it afterwards.
Can you elaborate please? Everything thats required can be added at time of order, without the FX4.

Kinda like diesel vs. gas.
Go figure.
I actually have the FX4 it just seems there is still a misunderstanding here of what you really get for the $400. If someone is trying to decide on the option they should know what it includes.
Well, you got me! I admit that i did not remember correctly and typed out the incorrect info.
It does make sense that tires are required on the truck. Without tires would be just no fun at all.
Considering this truck will be the last truck in my life - it will outlive me, Wifey splurged on the Lariat Ultimate package and other comforts and niceties. I splurged just a bit - I admit that I wanted the FX4. Installing the skid plates would have been doable. I was not about to start drilling holes and pounding an extra switch into the dash of a brand new truck. I could do it just fine, but did not want to screw up the complicated electronic stuff.
Plus, I got a really super good deal at employee price, plus stacking multiple rebates and discounts, plus a really good rebate for financing through Ford Credit, plus a great trade-in price for an old Explorer. When I received the first bill I paid it off.
The deal was so good that the sales manager asked me if I felt guilty. I told him not one bit but if he sliced off another $5,000 I would put on a good show pretending to feel guilty!

As detailed both before and after your respective quotes, this is faulty logic that leads to a poor financial decision.
While FX4 does require certain other options, it does NOT include them. The A/T tires required by FX4 are NOT included in the price.
It's been discussed at length, but the FX4 shocks aren't any different than any other factory shock. They're all crap.
At the end of the day, you're paying >$250 for Hill Descent and a sticker. That's it. That may be worth it to some. No problem there. Just be careful not to conflate the picture with a bunch of fiction.

That's great.
It is very clear what is included in the FX4 package. I agree folks should understand that, but it is not hard to determine.
What people fail to understand is ordering the FX4 may require you to also order and pay for other required items. Those items have a cost, and can be ordered independently of the FX4 trim.
The length of this discussion has far outlasted my interest in the FX4 package.

Lol, I agree, the information has been very clear and repetitive, amazing that there still could be confusion on the subject.
I only mentioned to you that I have the FX4 because my participation here is not coming from a place of I have it so its the best, or I don't have it so you shouldn't either. Sometimes that is the sole position of some who post in certain threads, like your example of gas vs diesel.
Went by dealership today and took note, 16 out of 17 trucks in inventory had FX4 package and it reminded me that consumers want to feel excepted and fit in to the mainstream.......the reason Starbucks is even in business. Lol
Another example is, 99% of Jeep owners with the offroad rated emblem on their Jeeps have never even seen gravel.
thou shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbors.......learned in kindergarten.
Seriously, how many FX4 trucks are probably just full-time pavement queens? Not saying they all are, but probably quite a few driving around are always on pavement. I factory ordered my 2020 F250 with the 4x4 and skid plates (no FX4). The only off pavement mine will see is the odd gravel road a couple times per year. Got the 4x4 because I live up in Western Canada with our terrible winters, and got the skid plates as a stand alone option, instead of opting for the FX4. My rig is a towing / daily driver rig so I don't see any value in the FX4. I think it's more an ego trip option for many, then a required package they actually will ever, or very rarely will use.
I special ordered my f250, and did not pick the fx4. Its not a lot of money but the required options bulk the price up over the $400 after adding the locker it currently adds $665 to chose fx4
I ordered skid plates and elocker instead.
I also ordered camper package, which adds swaybar and hd (f350) springs.
camper package required 18 in wheels so I took stock wheels and bought a set of 20 inch takeoff rims/fx4 tires
I wanted the 20 inch wheels and probably saved $500 on not getting fx4 and got the locker, skids, swaybar and hd springs.
takeoff wheels/tires were 1400-800(selling my stock 18s)=$600 so about $1000 savings over ordering 20s and I got the swaybar.
So I saved around $1500 and got exactly what I wanted, I will do it that way again....
and I still prefer the 2017 20 cast wheel look over the current design...
I just rebuilt my truck with the same features, 2018 msrp $65005, $55815 purchase price $61209 out the door. 2021 msrp $70400
so 5k or 2.8% annual increase. But the discount probably is not as good now. And of course I would probably spring for more options.....
