For Diesels it really has to be a pain though. All of those parts are stupid heavy.
Yes, sir, a shop has to have plenty of overhead hoists. I'd use one and soft rope to lift countershafts out of 13 speed Roadranger trans cases or you're guaranteed a pinched finger. Also needed for crankshafts and differential gears and on and on. And yep, I've never been too proud to ask for advice either, how else does a guy learn?
And speaking of B.S.'ers, there's a guy who bought out an injection shop in PA and from his site he boasts he's a veteran of the I.T. industry, "retiring with 31 years of experience, I have turned my attention to things mechanical. My background includes 35 years as a mechanic, 30 years of which have specialized in diesel power." The guy's worked on his vehicles in his driveway, never worked a day in a diesel truck shop, never even done or would know how to do a valve job or set up a rear end which are pretty basic routine jobs in any diesel shop.
