Pump to start.

I have 96 F350 PSD that acts like a carbureted gas engine. When I start it, after waiting for the light to go out, I have to pump it twice for it to start right up. If I don't, it has a hard time starting. I have changed the fuel filter, added diesel kleen, and even changed where I was getting my fuel. Nothing has helped. I have noticed that my temperature gauge only makes it to the "N" of the normal range, but this should have nothing to do with starting. The truck only has 132000 on it. I have considered the problem could be either in the pump or the injectors, but how do I find out which and why does it not affect it at any other time.

Any more ideas would be great.

Are your glow plugs geting hot for 20 sec. or so after start-up I see a swing in my Volt guage when the plugs turn off. The glow plugs use a lot of power.

Yes, the glow plugs are kicking in. The meter is on the low side and after a couple of mins. it kicks up to normal. I was talking to a mechanic yesterday and he said that it sounds like I am losing pressure it the fuel line going to the injectors. He said if for some reason it is getting air into the line that by pumping the pedal I am repressurizing the system. He said it could be that the orings on the injectors are doing this. Has anyone heard of this before and can I change the orings myself? I'm not ready to fork out the money for a set of injectors.
