Any opinions on the Decked bed truck box? I've been going back and forth between getting another Weather Guard chest tool box or trying the Decked system.
I've been debating the same for a few months now.... It sure looks like the Decked system is the way to go but can't quite pull the trigger on loosing a foot of depth to my bed.
The decked system is great, however it makes loading things on top difficult. My decked system last about 3 years before the plastic was destroyed from daily use.
As a residential contractor, I carry almost every tool you need to build or work on a house on a daily basis with my extra wide WeatherGuard saddle box.
I also carry building materials frequently as well as occasional debris. Decked system for me would be impractical. i need the cargo space.

Wow, I would have hoped for a longer useful life. They are pricey. Did you have it under a topper or exposed to the elements?
I templated the top of the decked toolbox, then traced it onto a 1/8" sheet of aluminum and installed that over my decked toolbox. Now I have a sliding (dangerous when wet) and better waterproof/ uv proof surface. Due to my 5th wheel camper it's a pain (for me to unload and reload) during each removal and reinstall. But I love it. With the tailgate lock there is no access to the tools.
When I install the aluminum sheet on top, I placed it over the bed rails from the drivers side, tuck it under the bed rails of the passenger side first, then crawl from the open tailgate side under the aluminum sheet, push it up with my back, grab the drivers side of the aluminum sheet and pull it under that side of the bed rails, crawl backwards out and let it lay flat down. Perfect fit. Can't remove it without opening the tailgate first. I contact cement all the aluminum sheet edges with 1 piece of vinyl coated aluminum push on trim. No abrasion on the Linex truck bed coating. No flexing or billowing at highway speeds.
This is the toolbox I use Its only 5" tall and its the full length of my bed I can fit a lot of tools in there and when you pull out the drawer you can see all of them without having to reach into the bed I've had this box since 2000 and it still works like a champ Its pretty strong I load up rtvs on top of it without any problems

Nope just open bed, I don't go easy on stuff especially my work truck. I routinely placed wacker plates on it, backhoe buckets, chains man hole rings. The 3 years was okay but I have gone back to a weather guard rat pack which is much more durable.
I skipped the Decked system and went for a Diamondback Bed Cover. Dry, lockable storage and the ability to put anything you want on top of it. Also, panels are easy to take off individually or completely remove if I need the full bed. For what I was going to give up by going with the Decked system, the Diamondback made more sense.
Got a Decked system --mainly for hunting and fishing. Overall its a great system. But sometimes its a pain if you need to take it in and out. Not that bad to do ---it takes about 1/2 hour. Works perfect for sleeping in the back of the truck.
I see on their website that they may not keep out all water & dust. I can deal with a little water but dust is keeping me from buying one. Those of you that have them, how much will get in there? I suppose a tonneau or cap would help but prefer an open bed.
How about a carpet/camper kit? Yes, you have to have a shell. I carry an incredible amount of gear and it converts to a very comfortable bed all the way across. Plus I’m dust free after plugging and caulking every crack and hole.

That looks like a nice setup! I really like the center of the bed being open. I prefer an open bed though so it wouldn't work for me. Any chance of a picture of the storage boxes open,....just in case I change my mind on the cap?

What system is that? Who makes it? It seems like it would work for me. Thanks
