3.0 VS 5.0

We are looking to get a 2018 or 2019 F-150 for our landscape company. Looking to have a couple of questions answered? Is the new 3.0 powerstroke compatible with a plow prep package? If so, would the 5.0 or the powerstroke be the better choice. It will be pulling a trailer loaded down with a few mowers and hauling grass in the bed on a daily basis for about 6-8 months out of the year. May occasionally have to haul a pallet of brick or sod.

Any reason you are not considering the 3.5l Twin Turbo?

Other than warranty, the primary difference between the 3l and 5.0 is fuel economy. Most other numbers are comparable with the exception of the 5.0 significantly out performing the diesel in payload capability by about 1,200lbs. It doesn't sound like you intend on putting too much stuff in the bed, so that may not matter to you. Towing is about the same. If you are focused on fuel economy, the 3L looks better initially, but when you figure in the premium you pay for diesel fuel (roughly 20%) then the two are equal. The diesel has a longer mileage warranty, but if you don't plan to drive over 12k miles a year then it makes no difference.

Now for the important stuff - the 3L comes with a really cool 'Powerstroke' label - chicks totally dig it! The ancient '5.0' just doesn't impress like the 'PowerStroke'

But... if you want to be with the cool kids, the 3.5 is the way to go. It equals or beats the 5.0 and 3L in all categories (except warranty again) and has a quicker 0-60 time.

Better have a fleet EIN number to make the purchase or find a creative fleet manager. Currently the fleet 3.0 diesels are restricted and require EIN number from ford. There is ways around this. The 3.0 is not plow rated, only the 5.0 is.

Did I miss something? I don’t think there was a mention about fleet. Thus could be a small business of three amigos, and not a fleet. Wouldn’t prevent a purchase,
And, the 3.0L warranty is the same as the 5.0L... no 100,000 like big brother.

Is the 3.5EB available with the plow package (I bring this up since someone mantioned this engine)? I’m guessing the OP asked if the diesel was a available with the plow package because he plans to plow with it. I may be wrong, but I don’t think the EB engines are available with the plow package.

Get the 5.0 . Tried and true. Diesels aren't needed in half ton trucks and probably won't be in them
for long.

The current 5.0L isn’t really tried or true. New for 2018 in the F150. Both EcoBoosts gave a longer history in the F150.

Only the 5.0 is plow rated. That is due to the plow blocking air flow to the intercoolers required fo turbos.

I assumed they didn't want a lariat or a platinum for snow plow or yard care. With the XL or XLT you need a EIN.

The truck will have a plow on it during the winter so I cannot do the 3.5. From what I was told, the plow will block airflow to the turbos which could cause overheating. The 3.0 and 5.0 are the only ones I see offered with a plow package.

3.5 does not offer plow package.

His point was that they have been out longer than the current 5.0, since someone else didn't realize the current 5.0 is a newer design.
As such, yes, they have also been in the shop before the current 5.0 was out.
