I have the Cobra with the electronics in the mic and a connector box. I think it's the 75W or something like that. Since I have a console I mounted the connector box in the bottom of the console with just the mic cable fed through a small hole. I am temporarily using a magnetic mount (large 5" base very strong) with a short antennae on the roof. But, I think I will make a permanent mount on top of my (under rail) tool box. Let us know what you wind up with.
I'm not sure how much experience you have with CB radios but this is my $0.02 . I mounted my twin firestiks to the corners of my bed near the cab. If your runnin a single antenae try to put it near the center of the truck (on the back of bed near the cab is ok) with at least 2/3's of it above the cab. As for the radio location, I would pick a spot where it is out the way yet ealily accessible at the same time. Close enough to mess with the dials without takeing all your concetration off the road. I mounted mine just right of the hood and park brake release handles. Also make sure you set the SWR after you have everything set up. You can get a cheap but good SWR meter from Radio Shack. They come with fairly easy to understand instructions too. I hope this helps.
I took a peice of flat steel bar that was 4 feet long and bout an inch wide. Cut 2 peices off the same length and drilled two holes in either side. Bolted the cb to the bars. Then I cut a 3rd peice the width of the cb. I then welded the three peices togather to form a u. Primed it and painted it gloss balck. Then I took 2 1 1/4 self tapping bolts and drilled through the bar into the floor. You need AT LEAST 1.25 inchers due to the ungodly amount of insualtion. I have the 60/40 bench seat so I put the base of the cb right about against the balck peice on the center hump with the floor ducts for the heater in it. I pushed all the extra wire under that balck peice to make it look neat. The cb's angle is right up at the seat so I can see it out of the croner of my eye.
The best part is you can make a longer peice of steel for either side and mount other stuff like switchs for your fire lights and a scanner. Got my idea from galls just cheaper and smaller. Good luck!
