Cannot figure out this boost leak/hiss sound

2014 6.7 tuned, dpf delete, egr still intact.

Only under high boost 25-28lbs sounds like a boost leak, it’s definfiely air escaping out of somewhere.

I replaced the coldside intercooler with a metal one instead of plastic....with no change

I also tightened down all the intercooler clamps with no change.

From what I can tell I don’t see any soot around the turbo or up pipes-but from what I remember on my 6.0 when the up pipe was leaking it would hiss all the time.

Anyone know where I should go from here?

Question, I do have a smoke tester avail, my intercooler piece has a cap on it where I am assuming I can install a sensor into it. Can I remove that cap and smoke test it from there and see if I can find a leak that way? Or will it not give enough pressure to find a leak

On my 7.3 I built an insert to pressurize intake system to find leaks, I haven’t read of this on a 6.7, but would think same would apply.

I believe I may of found an issue.

I pulled tbe upper intake manifold off and it looks like there’s soot that has been blowing by the gasket there.

Would this be a good place to start or should I put the intake back on?

My vote would be "yes". Gasket should be relatively inexpensive and an easy replacement. Even if it's not the problem, can't hurt.

Seems like there is a lot of soot near the boot? have you checked this o-ring?

are you taking about the boot that connects to the turbo? I didn’t actually pull it off and inspect it, but it did have some slop to it, but didn’t seem to be enough for concern. I’ll glady order one from ford if you think it’s the next place to go.

Looks like you just can’t replace that boot.

This looks like the right one

It's just an observation on my part. but I'd pull the retaining clip off, disconnect and inspect that connection. That's the hot side compressed air, so would seen logical? Might be just an o-ring that is needed?

They dont sell a O ring for the hot side you have to replace the entire tube

Yeah, I would probably replace that pipe, I think I will try to smoke test the system and see if I can find a leak some where.....

Could it be the actual turbo itself?

If you are going to replace the hot pipe you might as well as replace it with one that is cheaper and one that you can get parts for possibly. Here's one from Rudy's on EBay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Side-Intercooler-Pipe-Boot-Kit-For-2011-2016-Ford-6-7L-Powerstroke-Diesel/172315608802?hash=item281ecf86e2:g:RHIAAOSwDZJbEDe H:sc:ShippingMethodStandard!14221!US!-1

Good luck with fixing the leak.

Isn't it part #5 below or are you referring to a different o-ring?

If you have an EGR delete on the truck, check the plates. Another potential spot is the actual exhaust manifold itself. Read that to be an issue for some guys in the past.
