A/C Oil Question...

Good Evening,
I have a 1978 Ford F150 that was converted to an R134A A/C. It needs some oil in the compressor. I am assuming that I DO NOT put in the mineral oil that came with the original truck - now because of the retrofit to R134A I use PAG oil. That is correct? I want to make sure that what I read is correct. As it is still the middle of winter, I will not be doing it soon, but I want to know that I need to get the right stuff. I would also assume that the amount to add is in one of the shop manuals I have (I have all of them). Thanks in advance!
Scott

I'm not an A/C expert but I have a lot of equipment and we've converted a lot of it. we use ester as a lubricant in converted systems because PAG is not compatible with mineral oil. if you're sure all your mineral oil is gone I suppose you could use PAG.
good luck getting that done.

One thing to know is R134a will not cool as well as your old refrigerant. I don't care what they tell you they're full of crap it never does. it will work, just not as well. on my classics I spend the extra to keep R12 in them.

I'd check with your A/C guy and see what he has to say.

Yes use esters oil or clean the system and USE a PAG 46. How do you plan on judging your oil capacity?
