My 97 does something weird.

Ok, so I go out to start my 97 the other mornin, get in it let the glow plugs run about 40 seconds (I have them on a button) it fires up and revvs up to 4k BY ITS SELF, I kill the key soon as I think to do so (it sacred me at first and couldn't think what to do.) It dies, then I start it back up in the stock setting on my hydra and shift it to my daily driver tune and it dies, I put it back in stock run the glow plugs again and start it up and put it in DD and it stays running this time.
So with all that said, why did it rev all the way to 4k by itself? It was 28°F when I started it up and I had the hydra in DD the first time when it did that. It's running fine now and I went on an over night road trip with a 16 foot stock trailer and everything was more then good, it it's just kinda got me nervous now.
thoughts?

anything's possible I guess. I might could have even had my foot on the throttle and not noticed I suppose.
it does still act funky though when changing tunes from stock to any other tune in my hydra

How long have you had it on there. Your chip that is? You might want to check if it was installed correctly

I've been thinking on trying that. I wondered if maybe the chip wasn't getting a good connection.

Holding the go pedal won’t do that. Go hold the pedal to the floor and start it. It will just idle until you let off and it activates the IVS. If it does rev up then you have IVS issues. To me it sounds like the ipr was stuck

Couple the IPR cause the engine to die and or lope really bad when going from stock to daily driver on my hydra? When I start it up in DD everything is fine, but when I start in stock and switch it to DD it acts weird.

Something else I've noticed is that when it's cold it goes into a high idle then when it warms up it slows back down. It idles at about 800 or 900 RPMs when cold.

I agree with Mike, only thing that makes sense but would think a code would be thrown.

About normal if your chip has the high idle feature programmed. Stock OBS PCM's don't have that feature. Ask your chip vendor if on this tune (whatever it is) does it support high idle when cold.

The contacts on the PCM where the Hydra connects can get worn and not make good contact. They say that the solder coating should still be there with no copper showing through. There is at least once place that will re-coat them if you send it in. Not sure if a bad chip connection could cause a runaway RPM condition though.

I have a Hydra chip and had the opposite problem only once. Started it and stepped on the go pedal and nothing happened, wouldn't go past idle. I turned it off and restarted it and everything was fine.

the best way to check the IPR would be live data correct?

I know on my chip I have a high idle setting all by its self.
