97 powerstroke. Just replaced fuel pump, valve cover gasket/harness and glow plugs. Now when i start it the check engine light comes on. If i restart it the light goes off. I tried to read the code but nothing comes up. Also, it doesnt seem to run like before. Sounds just a little off to me and doesnt have the low-end power like before. Im wondering if it could be the ICP and or/the CPS? Or, a wire harness issue? I checked all wire connections and they are tight and clean. Thanks for any info you might have.
When i changed the harness i didnt splice the new ends on i just reused the old ones. Think that is the problem? The old ones looked good and fit tight. I cleaned them and put electrical grease on each one. As far as the sensors i ordered the two stated earlier, so, i havent changed them yet. Thanks for replying guys, i appreciate the help.
So a bad connection on a glow plug will set the CKECK ENGINE light? It only comes on when the engine is cold, first start of the day, after that everything is ok. Do the 97s only have one glow plug relay? I replaced the one on the top of the engine. I also did that EBPV delete.
I read after changing the fuel pump there gets air in the head. The post said it can take a while to get the air out. I drove my pickup yesterday and seems to be getting better, other than the first start of the day. Any idea if that is true or a possible cause? Thanks

If it's a Federal truck I've never seen the check engine light come on due to bad connections and you can disconnect the entire GP relay and it still won't come on. If it's a Cali truck then yes it will as they monitor GP current draw. Yes, the 97 model has only 1 glow plug relay but the Federal and Cali versions are different.. On a 97 Cali truck the EBPV delete might throw a check engine light as the programming is different, not sure though. It might need a resistor pack to fool the computer that the back pressure valve is still connected.
Of course if your truck is a Federal version then all the above comments are irreverent. .
Its a MN pickup. Again this morning, it starts and idles/sounds different. Check engine lights comes on after a minute of running. Shut it off and restart and all back to normal. No light and runs perfect.

OK, are you in MN or where? Sounds like thick old oil but you didn't mention if it was replaced? The ebay online sensors are crap, go for it if you want but they will probably cause other issues.
I change oil every 3000 miles and i use 10w 30 rotella. 15w 40 is too thick for our winter climate. Ebay sensors are junk? Hope i dont have problems... Where do you recommend buying sensors?

Still no clue where you live, guessing it's MN.
On sensors OEM newer parts only .. Ford, International or Riffraff Diesel. I know the packages indicates a genuine ford part number but how many generations ago.
