My rear right brake is not working even though I had replaced the bulb? How should I go about fixing the problem.
Oh, by the way... thanks to those who helped me in fixing the dashboard light problem that I had last week. I had to replace the dimmer swith which had been corroded inside.
Both rear brake lights operate off the same wire(circuit), so if the left is operating there must be break between the two. If the van has been equipped with a hitch, check the wiring connections where it is spliced into the harness.
A dumb question to ask as I am an amature at fixer uppers ....
My van is equipped with a hitch and where will I find the the wiring connections where it is spliced into the harness?
I looked under the van where the the cable would connect to the hitch (Back of van) and most wires are taped. Would this connection be there or could it be under the hood?
Nearly all hitches were aftermarket installations, meaning the wiring had to be spliced into the existing harness in the rear. Follow those leads back from the hitch and they should be spliced into the harness either around the rear bumper or in the case of a good installer, they may run all the way up to the tail light housing and be spliced in the area behind the tail light - usually on the drivers side.
Since you say it's the right light that's gone, If you have a rear wiper, maybe some fluid was inadvertently poured onto the connection?
I would check for corrosion of the socket itself where the light fits into. If you have a voltmeter, check it to see if there's any current flowing anywhere there.
