I had my truck getting a front end alignment today (90 F250 IDI). During that time I get a phone call saying they can’t get my truck to start. I go back over and try to start it for them. The truck was warm from being driven, the outside temperature was 65-75 degrees and no start. I sprayed some ether and got it started. I am wondering if my glow plug control relay is bad? I didn’t not hear it cycle with multiple clicking noises after 30 seconds from when the wait to start light (wtsl) turned off. I got it home and later cold started it 15 hours later and I heard the clicking noise multiple times after 30 seconds when the wtsl turned off. Any ideas?
if the engine block is over around 100 degrees, the glow plugs are turned off and the controller will not cycle.
it sounds to me like there may have been air in the fuel system. how much fuel was in the tanks? these trucks are known for running out of fuel around 1/4 tank due to a cracked or broken in tank pickup tube.
Agreed. I believe I’m good as far as air in the fuel lines. I resolved that issue. As far as the fuel level, I’m not exactly sure, since my fuel gage is broken. Maybe that’s the culprit.
But also, I still have my clear lines on certain locations of the fuel system (fuel filter housing and drain tube). The lines show plenty of diesel fuel with zero bubbles). Im think it might be something else.
With the engine warm and being that warm outside (you lucky dog!) she should of started right up. With air issues you can generally tell that problem because it will require a lot of cranking followed with a lot of stuttering and perhaps even a stall once it does get re-primed.
I would say your IP shut off solenoid may be failing. When they ware out, they can do this and replacing them might be cure it.
Just keep in mind it could be a highly worn IP causing the issue too.Ideally these are to be reman every 100k or so.Many are long overdue on these old engines lol.
