Trouble with engine hesitation when under load
Hello everyone, I'm Steve from Lakewood ca. This is my first time posting and I hope I don't fail like my van is. I have a 1988 Econoline E150 5.8L clubwagon and the problem I'm having is, when the engine is cold it seems to idle fine and the fuel pressure hovers steady at 35 psi when I remove vacuum from the pressure regulator it spikes about 10 psi, which is normal. Then drops back to 35 upon reconnecting vacuum line. But when I go to drive, no sooner than a couple of blocks and pressure drops to 20 psi it begins to hesitate as though running out of fuel but not necessarily stalling. I pull in the driveway, still idling at 20 psi, shut ignition off and pressure holds at 20. Pressure remains at 20 when I restart as long as engine is still hot, but when engine cools, pressure jumps back up to 40 psi with KOEO, then drops back to 35 with KOER, till I begin to drive again and the problem repeats itself. If anyone can help me with this I will b forever grateful. Pressure regulator and fuel filters are new. Thank you.
