Do the OBS powerstrokes have a plug along the passenger side engine bay that you can unplug and touch to the + battery post to run the starter without firing the engine up? My buddy and I might go look at a 1997 this weekend that "won't start" and I want to try to crank it this way as a test.
Yes it does. Picture below shows the starter solenoid on the passenger fender. Note the disconnected push on wire connector. Unplug that and with a jumper wire jump the bolt looking connector on the relay to battery positive. The engine will crank but not start.
