Hi everyone, I know that you are probably sick of hearing this one, but here goes. I need help programming my remote for keyless entry on my 96 ranger 4x4 sc with a 4.0. I did search the archives and got to the point where I cycle my ignition on and off. The locks did go up and down, but when I pressed a button on the remote, nothing happened. I repeated this several times, and no success. I just got the remote off of eBay, and have eMailed the previous owner to find out the make/model/year, but I am at a loss here. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I assume (by your post) that your owner's manual says that you can do the ignition cycling to program that year of Ranger. If not, you may have to take it to the dealer to be programmed. The programming conventions that Ford uses are model specific rather than year specific. In other words, just because a specific 1996 model can be programmed that way doesn't mean that every 1996 Ford can be programmed using the ignition cycling method.
That said-
First, make sure that all of the numbers on the back of the "new" remote match the remotes that came with your truck. You need to make sure that both the part number and the FCC numbers match. Next, it may be something simple like a dead battery. Gently pry the case apart (near the key ring attachment) and pop the battery out and get a replacement. You can get them at Radio Shack, etc.
It may also be that you've bought a defective/damaged remote control.
