Drop axle install
I used a SIDS dropped 3” stretch axle. Poise Superslides on rear. Everything had been rebuilt by previous owner so it was a bolt in. 6.00 x16 front,7.50x16 rear and it sits just right. Dovetail on trailer makes it look higher in the back than it really is.Bottom of stock bumpers to ground is 11” front 17” rear. I was going for an older look with bias tires and Steele’s. Did have some front wheel shudder when hitting a bump but a steering stabilizer took care of that.
Replaced the leaf spring pins and bushings while I was back at it. They were quite the chore but needed to be done. Still had clearly visible fomoco logo in the outer bushings after being half worn through internally.
hoping front suspension is all done now, bought flip kit for the rear and am converting to 8.8 rear end.
Noticed poor drivability on way to alignment shop, dropped it off overnight and waited.
They called this afternoon.... were not able to align it as the tie rod I ordered that was supposed to be right was too long and severe toe issues exist.
My caster is also about 20 degrees from being right.
Camber is looking like an issue too...but wont know til others get dialed in
Gonna try to shorten tie rod, remove or flip the spring shim direction, and see where I'm at after I do something to get the rear end down.
