Adding FordPass / Wifi to 2018

Hey guys,

I have a 2018 XLT Premium with about every option you can get in it, outside of it have the Wifi connection. I had this in my Chevy 2500 and loved it, especially on the farm and with the 2 year old. I know they made the dongle for the 17s and down, but I cant seem to find anything about getting it added to an 18. Has anyone figured it out? Is it possible?

Yes you need to add FordPass SmartLink to the vehicle. It is an OBDII plug in, and will require dealer setup. Many dealers don’t know how to do it and will need to learn. For WiFi hotspot service you’ll need to activate a Verizon account as that’s the service provider. Then you can use the FordPass SmartLink app to control the car, get alerts, health information - and also hotspot functionality.

I’ve done this in my 2018 F-250 and can confirm it works well.

How much is it per month with Verizon? I've read a bunch of different things about it and nobody seems to agree on the monthly charge.

Awesome to hear... I figured there wasn't anything that had changed from 17 to 18 but when I asked at the dealership they gave me the default "cant do that". I know they say that about a ton of stuff.. I'll grab one of the connectors and head up there to do some troubleshooting with them. Maybe I can figure out exactly what they do and help people further.

I already have VZW. It is $20/month to add to my existing account.

From the Ford Owners website:

So, what's this going to cost?

Good news. Payment options are flexible. Pricing varies by vehicle model and dealership, so get in touch with your dealer for complete details. They'll help get you all set up.

it requires a dealer-only website to set it up. They create a username temp password for you. And set it up as a “new” keyfob

I have an appointment for 1/29 to have this installed on my truck at a dealer in NJ and they knew exactly what I was talking about when I called them, had the modules in stock as well. Your best bet is to call fordpass customer service 844-589-0059 and choose option 1, speak to an operator directly and they were able to look up a local/close dealer that is certified to do this install. Most of the dealers I would call had no idea what I was talking about or give the I heard something about this but we do not do that. I am glad to hear that it works great from fellow members that have had this installed on an existing superduty with no issues.

That's great, I started another thread a day or two ago about possibly installing the "Remote Access" app on my '18. This sounds like a much better solution, really want the app to start my truck.

I'd like to have this on my truck to provide hotspot connectivity for my cloud enabled dash cam, but Lincoln apparently uses AT&T for their Lincoln Smartlink. My cell phone provider is Sprint, and three different bills is just more than I want to keep up with. It also seems providers charge an arm and a leg across the board for data only connections.
