So I got set up with the Forscan program for my Ranger.Works good. Unfortunately I bought the Windows version and must use a cable to connect the adapter to my desktop PC(don't have a laptop). I have an Amazon fire tablet so can someone recommend a Bluetooth ELM adapter that would work for that tablet? Thanks for any recommendations.
You might call BAFX customer service & inquire if their ELM's will run on the Amazon "Fire" OS, It probably will, as it's mostly the open source android based OS, but BAFX customer service will likely have info that might not be on the web yet.
The customer service folks at BAFX have gotten a thumbs up from FTE & TCCA ELM customers, so you might consider starting there.
Here is a link to a thread I started about the ELM scan tool & embedded in there are a couple of posts about BAFX customer service help. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html
Decide what depth of streaming data parameters you want to monitor via the ELM & then opt for a WiFi link that's said to be able to carry more data over longer distances, or Bluetooth, if your just interested in a few engine parameters. If you want to do live "O" Scope type on screen graphing to monitor a number of sensors as you sit in the house while the vehicle idles in the driveway some distance away, you'll likely want to consider a WiFi ELM over a Bluetooth.
Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know what you choose & how it works. on your Amazon "Fire" pad.
I want to monitor live misfire counts as I'm driving around. Also STFT and LTFT. I don't think that would be possible with WiFi. Only Bluetooth. I will try to contact BAFX and see what they say.Thanks.
For no more than that either one will work just fine while driving around. For longer distance like when in a garage, or the vehicle out on the property somewhere & you want to be inside out of the weather, WiFi can broadcast farther without data dropouts. So think it through into the future, taking what you might want to do/monitor in the future, with say high data rate diagnostics like the oscilloscope line drawing function, or to monitor a number of sensors all at the same time etc.
