Here's my problem, for over ten years when the engine is at operating temp and not running for thirty minutes of more it is hard to start. It will crank for about 5 seconds then start. When it is cold it starts right up.There are no codes, fuel pressure is 35lbs idling 40 to 45 lbs at 1500 rpm,35lbs after engine shutoff no noticeable pressure leak down.I replaced all eight fuel injectors. Two of the old ones would leak down to zero in 30 minutes ( the reason I went with new Mototcraft injectors).Tune ups don't help and the fuel regulator checked ok.If anyone has any suggestions I would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
If it has been a while since you ran codes consider this. There are so many things that could cause your issue that I would run codes now, even if no CEL, and see if you can get a start in the proper direction. Could be battery or alternator or starter or engine coolant temp sensor ECT or other things. Sandy
If it's never been replaced, I'd replace the ECT just for piece of mind. Had 3 go out - 2 mustangs and an F150 .... same part. The good ones seem to die around the 20 year mark. I had a similar hard start when warm issue and no codes were thrown. In my case, it was a small vacuum leak (hose cracked). Was throwing off the MAF and computer just enough to give a harder than normal start when warm, but otherwise ran normal. Engine cold, there was probably little to no leak, but as it warmed up the leak got worse.
I have been chasing this issue for years. No codes, fuel pressure good, truck runs great other than the hot start issue. Once the truck does start I see black smoke coming from the tail pipe. To much fuel?
I was also told to change the ECT but I was given the wrong part and haven't gotten around to getting another one. The ford dealership will have to order one.
