I will be going thru this rig, I just acquired from my father-in-law. He rarely drove it, it will be needing some TLC. 1980 F350 dually, Trailer Special.
Fortunately the damper is degreed for a good distance each side of zero.
I lie on the ground under the truck, set the pointer to 15 BTDC. Then get up and turn the distributor so the reluctor tooth is dead center in the pickup coil. Clamp'er down and start'er up.
I agree, there must have been a better place to put the pointer.
I got the timing set at 10 BTDC. Have driven it some, still have some fine tuning to do. Seems to be a vacuum leak somewhere, imagine that. I am thinking that I will start to eliminate some the excessive vacuum operated equipment
