I have a 1999 f150 4.6 4x4. Today when I turned off my headlights they didn't turn off. I drove it home to disconnect the battery and realized my turn signals didn't work also. I was assuming I have a bad headlight switch until I discovered I have no turn signals. Now I don't know what to think. Any ideas where to start? Thanks
Since the turn signals don't work, the multifunction switch may be faulty.
This switch has a Flash to pass function that lights the high beams.
This function does not go through the head light switch. It may have permanently shorted contacts applying power to the head lights.
Pull fuse #8 a 30 amp and see if the lights go out.
If yes, the flash to pass function has a problem. this path does not go through the head lite switch.
The flash function is designed to work any and all times when operated with the multifunction switch.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info. I went out and reconnected the the battery cable and now my headlights are working properly. I was going to pull my #8 fuse, but since my lights turned off and on ok I didn't mess with it. I do believe your right and probably have to change the multifunctional switch. Thanks again
I turned my headlights on again and they wouldn't turn off again. I replaced the multifunction switch and found a 20 amp fuse number 13 blown. Replaced the fuse and I now have front turn signals and flashers. I have no turn signals on rear. They are blinking real fast on dash and front. I pulled my number 8 fuse which is only 5 amp and nothing changed. Replaced my headlight switch and nothing changed. Thinking this could get ugly. Thanks
Is this truck from Canada?
They had required DRL back in the day.
The fuse 8 you pulled at 5 amps is not the right number 8.
The head lights pull well more that 5 amps.
Now you have a different possibility.
The DRL system lights the head lights full time with ignition on.
That system may have an issue.
Have to begin new trouble shooting with this in mind.
I will take a look at that system to see what it could be.
Wow! Just discovered that my rear shock mount broke and cut a bunch of wires to the rear lights. Don't know for sure if I want to fix it or junk it. Not sure if the bed needs to come off or not. Really rusty underneath.
