Temperature gauge
After waiting a few weeks for the original temperature sending unit to arrive, it arrived yesterday.
The previous owner of the truck modified the original gauge and installed another sending unit, from a GM car, if I’m not mistaken. It didn’t look right, and it didn’t work right.
I installed the new sending unit, but it didn’t work. If I ground the gauge wire, it reads hot, then I guess the gauge is working. I did some research and found out that the sending unit I ordered works on the 9 to 15 ohm range, and the one that was on the truck works on the 74 to 100 ohm range.
Could this resistance difference be the reason for it not to work?
If that is the problem, is there anything I could try to do to make things work without having to change the gauge?
Thanks in advance,
Lobo
The tip of the connector inside that rubber insulator was broken. You could not notice it, but while trying to clean the connector I found that the part that should connect to the sending unit wasn’t there… It worked when I grounded it because I would stick the screwdriver inside of it, and it would touch the remaining piece of the connector… The gauge is not reading correctly, I believe it’s due to the resistance differences, but I know that while it is between the C and the normal, everything is OK. If it goes past that, something is wrong…
Well, at least it’s better than having no temperature gauge at all…
Best regards,
Lobo
