5.8 build.

Hey guys. I’m swapping a 1990 5.8 into my 86 Bronco that had the 5.0 in it. Building the 5.8 before I drop it in. Plan on Basically stock bottom end with Eagle I beam rods and forged pistons. Pro comp aluminum heads 64cc chamber with 2.02 1.60 valves, comp 35-255-5 cam, 1.6 roller rocker. Possibly convert to mass air If needed. First question does this seem like a decent combination for power? What do you think this combination will make and should I change anything.

What are your plans for your Bronco; daily driver, weekend warrior, mud boggin' etc...?

It’s definitely not a daily. It’s sitting on 35s with a C6 trans. I definitely want to keep it mild mannered enough for the street, but will mainly be a weekend warrior rig

I would recommend long or short tube headers into a free-er flowing exhaust, otherwise I feel like you would be leaving HP on the table. The stock manifolds/exhaust were a bottle neck from the factory.

Also with the heads alone I'd say a MAF conversion would be necessary, likely with a tune, but not necessarily.

Food for thought: the 351 upper EFI is a big bottleneck for that engine as well. If your dumping that much money into the engine, you may want to consider your options for an upgrade, or maybe on down the road.

I am planing on short tube headers and duals. Any ideas for the intake? All I could really find is the Edelbrock efi manifold. And spending 800+ seems crazy to me for just a manifold.

Unless you plan on boost or nitros there is no need for the I beam rods and forged pistons but it will need pistons with valve reliefs. That cam is a bit short for those heads too I'd go for the Crane 444232. As for an intake I'd suggest using a car stye single TB like the Pro Products Typhoon, that will be easier to plumb a MAF meter into which will be needed along with tuning to make all this work.

The Crane has less lift and intake duration than the Comp, so to my inexperienced cam selection skills, this seems to provide less flow capabilities. Is this recommendation to better match the head choice?

Only has less duration at 0.050" lift but more total duration, that translates into better idle behavour and a broader powerband favoring the Crane. I looked at a lot of cams and have never found one better suited to the 5.8, it produces a broad 1000-5000rpm powerband that responds exceptionally well to airflow increases while other grinds seem to become a bottleneck or sacrifice low rpm tq for higher rpm hp.
The Comp 31-255-5 and 35-255-5 are better suited to a 5.0 IMO, a motor that needs help maintaining what little low rpm torque it has.
