Don’t bother rebuilding the old window motor. There are worn parts you can’t replace. Buy Motorcraft brand if you want the new one to last. Most importantly is be sure the entire window track is cleaned and lubricated. Thoroughly cleaning the glass edge that comes in contact with the rubber track is also very helpful. I’ve also gone as far as using RainX on the glass edges with amazing results. That is what kills most original window motors, and the replacements.
I've never tried to fix the window motor before, but I have tried to fix one of the door lock motors. The metal case is swaged onto a phenolic base that has the brushes and a bearing. The problem was that the motor shaft points up, and allows water to seep right into it, and collect in the sealed base. They come with bellows seals on the shaft, but they always disintegrate. It's a horrible design that was used for decades. I ended up cutting enough notches in the swaged part to pry it open, and tried cleaning out all the corrosion. But it did not help with motor operation.
The 92 and up vans use a different motor with a plastic case that may be more easily disassembled, but still mounts it the same way, with bellows that disintegrate, making it susceptible to this drowning.
The motors are usually mounted on a frame that allows some swiveling, and the frame is riveted to the door. You have to drill out the rivet to remove it, and later use a small nut and bolt to mount it again.
Again, speaking only of the lock motors, the pre-92 models share the motor with many other Ford cars. I would look in the salvage yards as well, but look for those with the intact water shield bellows.
ok, I got the window motor out. Fortunately I had purchased the Service Manual recently from the member who advertised them.
Following the instructions in the Service Manual was very confusing, had to read them like 10 times to figure out what the heck
I needed to do.
BUT, I did not drill out the 4 rivets holding ( I don't know what) in place. Only had to drill two 1/2" holes in two existing "dimples"
to remove three 8mm screws and the motor came out easy. I tested it with my 12V tester but no response.

See if any of these coupons at Advance Auto Parts will help lower your cost:
(Place the order online and pick-up at the store - I've saved a lot of money using them)
went to my local Advance, they would not acept the coupon, and they had no stock for the motor that they could get inmediately. About a week to get.
Went to O'Reilly's and the manager there got me the motor for $39.00 + tax less $6.00 core charge.
remaned with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Can't ask for more.
the weird happenings since January 1 through January 3:
the window motor went,
the door lock actuator went,
the Start Lock Relay went,
everything on the LEFT / DRIVER'S side.
the Start Lock Relay can be explained: Water draining from the cowl was filtering over the relay, it killed it without warning. The van would not start. I was able to start it with a screwdriver between both poles of the relay. I have re-positioned the start lock relay so water does not touch it anymore and replaced it with a Lifetime Warranty relay.

I bought a pair of NOS Ford (Mexico assembled) for my 93 Aero. I recall drilling off the factory rivets to remove, and replacing with metric fasteners and using BLUE Loctite so it wouldn't fall apart inside the door. Years ago I put a used unit in the pass door..... it hesitates on occasion on first use. The new NOS motor in the drivers door is instantly responsive.
For me, it's NOS everytime.... until the supply chain is dry.

Yep, the coupon's only good online but once the order is placed (if the item's in stock) you can pick it up in half an hour. I've been using them for years and saved a bundle of money.
