240 engine noises

240 engine noises
66 F100 240 six. Just got it running fair tonight. Good oil pressure runs fairly smooth, knocking noise coming from engine bay. Do these engines have something that can cause this, like a rocker arm, fuel pump ( like a small block chevy) or possible timing gears, or do i need to look further in engine? Will try to do some more diagnosing as time permits. Thanks

Try to find exactly where it's coming from. It could be something very simple, from something loose to an exhaust leak.
With that said these and 300s are known to have weak piston skirts. (found cracked on high mileage or heavy use engines) One easy way to check with out getting into the engine is to drain the oil, strain it and look for aluminum.

Thanks, piston skirt info is what i was looking for.It has a exhaust leak, but it seemed like i noticed it when i put new plugs in it and it was firing good on all cylinders. Just hoping it is not a rod bearing.
