I have the auto /unlock feature activated on my KR. I understand how it works but I don't like how it works. The locking part is fine but unlocking not so much. The book says it will unlock all doors when I shut the ignition off and open the driver's door. The problem is the grandkids and sometimes the wife tries to open their doors before I do and the yelling starts for me to unlock the dang door. The GM products we have had and now the new Subaru we just got all unlock when I shift to park. Probably a waste of my and your time but is there any way to make the locks work like the GM and Subaru?
Agree 100%. I turned the auto lock completely off in my pickup. In my wife’s Expedition I ended up enabling the child lock on the back door because of the kids and turned all the locks off on it as well. I was tired of listening to my wife complain every time she got out with the vehicle running and the back doors and the tailgate would be locked. It is a pita. Between it and having to turn the cruise control on every time are my biggest complaints from switching from GM to Ford, but still pretty minuscule in the scheme of things, just annoying!
Ugh I have had the exact same experiences. I like the idea of saving wear and tear on my locks, but yeah apparently reaching for the little **** by the window is just toooo much :P .
When I drop my kids off at daycare I leave the truck running. With my GM trucks it was no big deal, I could just get out and open the back doors. When I started buying Ford trucks this lock feature was a huge nuisance. I would get out and attempt to open the back door only to find it locked. I would then have to get back into the front door and hit the unlock button. However, it didn't take me long to get into the habit of hitting the unlock button as I was getting out of the truck. It has now become automatic, almost like putting on the seatbelt.
Makes me wonder if the people who design these things ever use them. The wife got a new top of the line Subaru 7 passenger Ascent last Saturday. It doesn't have remote start thru the key fob. If you want to remote start it you have to buy their app ($75 for 3 years) and start it from your cell phone. The salesman said this is the new normal. Whatever.
I have mine disabled. I don’t like riding in any vehicle with auto locks. What if you are in an accident, and the driver is unconscious? You are trapped in the vehicle, maybe the vehicle is in the water, or on fire, you can’t get out, no one else from outside can get you out either.
The tailgate auto lock was so annoying I disconnected the solenoid in the tailgate. I don’t have a cover and I still have a hinge lock so I gained nothing but annoyance with that lock. I miss how my Tundra worked—shift to park and everything automatically unlocked.

My 19 Super Duty I just bought is that way. No remote start on the key fob but you can start it with the Ford App. That makes no sense to me other than to steer you towards the App, the remote start technology is there, just not on the key fob.

I would guess this is a way to combat car thieves from stealing the code from your key fob. There apparently are electronic gadgets that can read the signal from your key fob as it's sitting inside your house on the dresser, and thieves can then unlock your truck and drive away without so much as a broken window.

Remote start and Ford pass are two separate options. You can either get one or both. The physical remote start can also be added cheaply and includes the perimeter plus alarm.

My 19 has key fob start, and app start. It's platinum trim level. Not sure where the option is in other trims, but it must be there. Now to disable the opening of the windows from the fob. I came out yesterday and both windows were down. Buttons pretty easy to accidentally hit if you leave the fob in your pocket.

Plug and play about 150.00 and uses three presses of the key fob, the ford system is about 219.00 and uses the same 3 button press but includes perimeter alarm plus which is a shock sensor. The ford option needs to be enabled with forscan. Both are about 5 min install and nothing needs to be wired.
