Agreed. The reindeer looked stuffed, like the teddy bear, not real. But can you imagine 8 tiny reindeer screaming "are we there yet" from the back seats as Santa drives the van around the world? He must have gone nuts.

I don't have to imagine it. I lived it.
We had a '61 Falcon van when I was a little kid. We used it for camping trips. I can assure you my sister and cousins and/or friends riding in the back DID drive my dad nuts, as he was driving us.
I used to ride on the engine cover, on a "Berea Pirates" stadium cushion. (My school was Berea Independent, home of the "Pirates") For those not familiar with these early Econoline and Falcon vans, the engine sat right between the seats. Not below the dash like the newer models, the radiator lined up with the front of the seats. The front floor board, minus the little steps at the doors, ran from door to door.
I love this picture. I showed it to my best friend and he thinks it's hilarious. Even the color is the same. Minus all the chrome, of course. When I was 14, and he was 15, I taught him how to drive a stick shift in it. It probably got as many miles around our block (when the parents weren't home) than my dad driving it legally.
I think my mom might have one picture of it. I may look for it when I'm at her house on Monday.
Sorry for the hijack, that picture just brought back a ton of good memories. But I suppose that's part of what the holidays are about.
