Fuel Filter Change - $285.00? Really?

Stopped by my Ford dealership and was quoted a minimum of $285.00 to change out both fuel filters on my 2017 6.7

Thinking that was somewhat steep, I ordered the two filters off Amazon for $56.00, watched a couple youtube videos and today changed both out in about 30 minutes which included draining the diesel out of the water separation housing.

$285.00 ....... Really? I call bull**** on that, Ford.....

Its absolute rape no matter how you look at it. We have been so busy at work we have been send out all the regular maintenance to a local ford dealer, pretty sure we are paying 335.00 a truck for oil change and fuel filters. I buy the filters for my own personal trucks online https://www.ebay.com/p/Motorcraft-FD...2606c8ffe62a71

Do it yourself, Takes 15 minutes, But the new filters still cost a pretty penny.

Just did mine, $50 + shipping from Diesel Filters Online. Great parts shop. Follow the manual, easy job. Same for air filters, don't pay dealership prices for this stuff. DIY oil changes are next...

When they quote me a high price for labor, I like to throw it back at them... "so what you're saying is, you really don't know what you're doing so you have to charge more because it takes you longer?"

My dealer was going to charge me 150.00. Watched a youtube video and did it myself and will continue to go it myself. Very simple.

I've walked out of more than one shop as I say it. Yeah, I wouldn't say that if I was going to get the work done there lol. Then sometimes, they drop the price. So then I come back with, "so you were just trying to see how hard you could screw me right?" Then I'm on my way.

I was assuming the dealer would be about $250. I did mine myself. $56 from Amazon and 30 minutes. Did it yesterday.

However: The dealer has to mark-up the parts. He probably buys the kit for the same price you pay on Amazon. So, with markup, the Dealer charges $112, plus tax for the parts. Then shop rate is likely anywhere from $100 to $150 per hour depending on the location. And some states are levying sales tax on labor now too. So if the book rate is 1 hour to change the filters and the shop rate is (average) $125/hr. The job totals out at: $112 + $10 sales tax = $122 plus $125 labor = $248. So $285 is probably above average but I don't know where you had it done.

It’s pretty obvious none of you own a business.
