Hi CatTech and welcome to the forum
What year is your truck? Does it have 4 wheel or just rear wheel ABS? 4 wheel requires a scan tool to retrieve codes, rear wheel doesn't.
Racerguy,
I have seen other people say that an ABS code cannot
be read, but if you say it can, I believe it. Our '99 Expedition 2wd 5.4
with 85,000 just started an intermittant ABS light. So I can take it
to Autozone for a reading? Is the code stored in the ABS module,
and is that where the reader is connected? TIA.

I dont think that Autozone can read ABS codes.
You need to use a good scanner with the software for the ABS such as your dealer's NGS or WDS scanners.
Yes the code is stored in the ABS module but the scanner gets hooked up the the Data Link Connector which is where engine codes get read too. The modules are networked together so the one test port can be used for multiple modules.
