It has been reported that the wiring harness where it drapes over the drivers side valve cover can fatigue and break or the insolation can slew off and let the wires ground out on one another. Although it has been a long time since any one has had that happen. It might be worth a check.
I'll be sure to check that once I get home from my Christmas travels. I need to replace one of the pig tails anyways. I did wiggle the whole harness and it didn't really change anything, but I'll check it anyways.
Ohm out each connection and wiggle the harness around. if the needle moves you may have a broken wire.
Since you said a UVCH short, possible the IDM is bad.

I've wiggled the harness every time it's acted up and doesn't change anything. I don't see this being a harness problem because of how randomly each side will shut down. One day it'll be the passenger side and the next day it'll be the drivers side. I have a good IDM ordered from eBay on the way and one new pigtail because I do have one injector harness pigtail that's a little damaged on the front drivers side on the plastic plug part of it.
that's good info. The new IDM is supposed to be in next week I think, if that fixes it I'll let you know and if not I'll give that a try and see what it tells me.

Beware All Computer Resources. I bought an IDM from his website (he also sells on eBay) and he sent me an IDM that would not even execute a buzz test. I followed his process and filled out his tech support form to try to get a replacement with no response. Only got a response after emailing sales for a refund. I got a refund less shipping and some amount for "re-stocking". This was last month.. and it was spray-painted black... so just sayin'
Funny thing is that the truck's original IDM worked great. I had it on the garage shelf after replacing it in Jan 2017. The used IDM (from eBay) I replaced it with started failing in May 2018 and by Nov 2018 was unable to keep the engine running.
I have the super-fancy Swamps IDM in hand and will put it in when I'm confident that I dont have an electronic problem that burned out the used IDM. I decided to keep a known working IDM around, because it's always the thing I can't test when troubleshooting a rough ride.
Here's a whole thread from 2016-2017 of me trying to fix a problem like yours -- I would intermittently have a bank not firing. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...er-loss-4.html
I threw a lot of parts at it and can now ohm that dang harness in my sleep (the pin diagram in this thread is taped to my fuse box!). I was never for sure what the culprit was, and I had a lot of other problems along the way, but I'm thinking it was probably the UVCH or IPR. Whatever fixed it, I learned that I needed to run the motor hard after reinstalling the fuel bowl before the motor smoothed out.

These guys here on FTE helped a ton!
I purchased from an individual in Florida. I think it's my IDM because everything was good until the UVCHs burned out. The passenger side was really bad. There was only like 2 pins left showing on both of the front and rear UVCHs. The driver side wasn't near as bad. Another reason I'm convinced it's the IDM is because of the P1668 code it threw the other day, which is IDM PCM communication error. I guess we'll find out though when my new/used IDM comes in.

I also have a Swamps IDM and it failed me after several years of use. For $30 they fixed it and mailed it back to me. The darn thing cost a lot of money but they stood behind it with great customer service! I wouldn't be afraid to use it.
Got my IDM today and put it on. Same thing. P1668 engine code and rough idle. It was good when I put the IDM in, then I killed it and started it back up and passenger side is dead. I guess I'm gonna have to go through some diagnostics now..

Just a thought.. Check the wire harness plug at the PCM. Take it off and look for anything wet or corroded. Its in a bit of a bad spot for getting wet when you open the hood and water can run down on it. Also, I had a leaking wiper washer hose leaking on one of mine. If left unattended could cause issues

funny that you mention the PCM because I just put a new/used one in (the old one had an old school hard wired chip and it wouldn't work without it) with a hydra and other then the hydra not having a perfect connection causing it to run weird randomly, it's running (knock on wood) like a Swiss clock so far.
