I just thought of a new word. Desurrected, it is a combination of resurrected and desecrated and applys to bringing back a cool name from an old car and putting it on a new piece of crap, like the Impala. Can you think of any others?
Crown vic used to be one but we have all but forgotten the original one of the mid fiftys and how rare and unique they were.
Pontiac LeMans
New Beetle
Chevy Nova (man they screwed that one up)
Dodge Daytona
Chrysler 300M (nice car, but remember the 300's from the early 60s? Chrooooome...)

The Beetle is waaay better now that it was before...I've got one!
I like the New Beetle, but it just ain't the same. My first car was an old Bug, and they had more character (and character flaws!). Mine was uncomfortable, ran when it wanted and smelled like moldy vinyl, but I loved it. Plus I could fix it. The new ones have the engine where it's "supposed" to be and are much more driver-friendly (and a bit safer) but they are so far removed from the old ones that it should have been given a different name.
Another one: Chrysler Town and Country. It's a minivan, didn't it use to be a luxury station wagon?
I had a LeCar! I have a great photo of it being finally hauled off by the tow-truck. I sold it for 45 bucks and forgot to take the new $60 battery out of it...duh...it had "ejector" seats and I could take the entire fuel system apart with vise grips...and did...

I'll stand by 2bowers and say the nova. The sixties and seventies were cool for nova's, considering who made them, then the late eighties or early nineties came and so did a new nova. I believe it was just a plastic chevette with a nova badge and front wheel drive. That's probably what's going to happen to the bel air. Also have to go with the Thunderbird. Sure it looks sort of like a '55, but can it run with a new corvette like the '55 could. At the price it's going for, it had better. I've got a Lincoln LS and I'll take it over the bird anyday. At least I'll have one thing up on the corvette. Four girls instead of one.
At least the T-bird was some sort of attemt at capturing what the original was all about, but with the modern flare. Underpowered and overpriced? Absolutley
But I dont think the originals actually ran with the Corvettes and they were actually touted as more of a personal luxury car, not a sports car.
I agree with you guys.
Most of them look like crap, and none of them really look like the older cars.
The Thunderbird looks good in its own way, but its not the same.
Isn't there supposed to be a new Mach 1?
I think Ive seen a picture of one in a magazine that looked halfway decent, but not like the old ones
