Has anyone here used a set of dump truck style plastic wheel Wells in a srw flatbed? Mostly to keep the mud and winter salt off the frame and flatbed as well as a place for the mudflaps. I am thinking about trying it on ol'blue. The units i am thinking of using are pictured below. Tell me what you think
I think they would look good if there sized for a SRW or you could always modify them to fit. Looks is important, its either sweet or not so sweet, they both get the attention put forth.
Thought about them for my dually and am still working on the idea. Jan. 2017 just B4 cab off resto.
Hello Circa 78,
Nice 1978 you have there. Yes appearance is very important to me as well and function a very close second. Hoping to isolate the tire and wheel including the back side of the wheel. Mounting choices include frame mount, under bed mount or spring pad mount. I am leaning towards a spring pad mounting option. Thanks for your comments.
Merry Christmas to You and Your Family.
So, did you get them? Looked like an excellent idea.
Not as of yet. Still planning on it though. Ol'blue just got a Detroit locker in the rear and a lunchbox locker for the front. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow. I will keep you posted with pictures when i get the wheel wells installed. Thanks for You're intereste.
Very nice! Much cooler than the plastic. Are you going to hang them right off the bottom of the bed? If that is steel I am looking at, you might spray the under
side with bed liner.
I was thinking about fabrication two arms and coming off of the frame (useable holes already in frame) or mounting on the bed or a idea I have been thinking I could mount on the backside of the wheel. Using the already existing axle ubolt threads. I am currently working on the rear end. Going to tie the two frame ends together to provide better pull points.
I am planning on painting the inside and under the bed areas with por15 then bed liner. I figure that a combination of both will increase the weight at least 10 lbs per. So maybe frame and under bed.
I may not install. It looked like it nite be a henderance for the jobs that ol'blue doing.
You could make squared U shaped rods. One assembly on the front of the fender and one on the back. Weld on some flat stock to drill for mounting bolts. It would be neat to keep the under side of the bed clean and the frame too.
