No clue on using CLR. There should not be anything causing buildup. The factory GL-05 coolant was very problem free when the system was maintained and flushed on time and didn't cause buildup.

I'll look into it. I just bought the truck last year with 259,000 miles from a preauction lot, so previous maintenance is unknown. Been chasing these demons for a while.i didn't know until recently that the heater core was a separate loop from the radiator, unlike my old 4.9 straight 6.
