OMG, they took, i think a 78 bronco and made it crazy mad.
They totally riped apart the body, added about 30k in parts (all new) and did this all in 5 days.
Then took a old dodge or chevy car. Reved it to max for who knows how long, the headers were glowing red, and then took this bronco, which is now a 30k rock crawler with liek a 12" lift and 4 wheel stearing.
they didnt say what they put in it, engine wise but it looked to be a 351 or maybe a little biger, but they had a performance Edlebrock FI system on it, man was it sweet.
The gearing was so law, that they said they had 15000 ft/lbs to all 4 tires.
Jesse James might not be the most likeable person, but you have to admit that he is a very good fabricator. Have you seen some of the bikes he has built??
289 is a great engine... RPM's up a little faster than the 302.... plus with the axle gear rations (4.56 I think) and the low ration transfer case... I am sure it was putting plenty of torque to the ground.
Screw asking for $30k to build a bronco... i wish i was cool enough that people just kept sending me goodies to build mine with! He got half that crap for FREE! Must be nice gettin parts on PROMO...
I saw that show three times. I think the statement they made about that Bronco making 15,000 pounds of torque at the wheels is total garbage. They're lucky if it puts out 350 l/b. They also said that a Honda puts out 2000 pounds of torque at the wheels. I think they said that so whoever watched the show got really excited.
Those numbers are arrived through the mechanical advantage of the rear gears, transfer case, and tranny. You are correct, the motor might only put out 350. But, when multiplied by the gearings, you should arrive at 15K. If I knew all of the ratios, I could probably do the math out to prove it.
