I have a 88' Ranger, v6, auto trans in the floor.
-My backup lights are not working. The fuse is fine and so are the bulbs. No power is reaching the bulbs.
-I need to check the switch but have no idea where it may be. Please help by telling where it is and suggest anything else I should check. Thanks in advance...
Get under the truck and look for the shifter linkage. Right where it goes in the tranny, look against the tranny and you may see a plastic thing with wires going in it. If you see this, then that's it.
Yep thats it! Thanks Franklin2. I cleaned both ends thoroughly and hooked it back up. Now it works great and I can actually see when backing up at night.
I have the same problem, did you have to remove the switch to clean it? I was under the truck looking at it and wondering if there was anything special I'd have to do. I noticed what looked like the kickdown cable lever coming out of it also. The wires were on the back and it looked like they are removeable. I did the adjustment with the drill bit before but hadn't taken it off.
