Ok, so my firend just bought this 86 F-250 4x4. Well I got to askin him about it and he said it was an I-6 but he said that it's not a 300 I-6. I was pretty sure it had to be a 300 but he was danged sure it wasn't. Can anyone tell me what else it could possibly be??
thanks,

Should be a metal tab on the distributor telling also. I forgot when they quit making 240's. But for some reason, it seems a 300 more likely in a 86. You can also tell by the VIN. Or at least on the older ones. A 300 is normally a "B" engine. The 240 was "A". Should be the first letter after the "F25" at the beginning of the VIN. MK
Made a slight goof here.... The tag is under the coil mounting. I guess I had distributor on the brain....I looked in my book, and the 300 for 86 was "Y", not "B". "B" was for older 300's up to 79 according to my book. As far as I can tell, 74 was the last year for the 240. So your's almost has to be a 300 unless someone changed it. MK
