What size tip?

Ive got a 79 f150 with a 351 and recently replaced my muffler with a flowmaster 40 series original. Well, its not loud enough yet for me so I am thinking of changing the pipe after the muffler to a 3" (changing from a 2 1/4" pipe) and having it exiting in front of the rear tire. My question is what would happen if I put like a 3 1/2" tip or even a 4" tip on? Would this help my sound? I want it to be loud, so would the tip help or is it a waste of money? Thanks for the help!

the less piping you have after the muffler, the louder it is. More pipe acts slightly like muffler in itself, and bigger pipe probably just gives it more room to echo down im sure.

Three and a half inch to four inch tip won't make much of a difference...i've got 4 inchers on a 95 that sound great

The longer and bigger diameter tip will make it deeper and more rumbly. I have a 18x3.5" tip and it made a nice difference on my exhaust. Next time I'd go with a 4" tip tho.
