I need to replace the driver's side (front) brake hose and though I have the ford truck's Haynes repair manual and have read the directions on how to do this, I get under the truck and am not sure as to what Im doing.
I can't see where to separate the female end from the smaller tube thing .. yes I'm female and unsure on what parts are called ...
Can someone help me out? Please? I have to get this done by 9 am sunday morning.
O.K. The rubber line should run up to a metal bracket attached to the frame. If you look between the bracket and the metal line you should see that it has flat sides. ( The rubber line has a metal fitting on the end of it that extends thru the bracket) Remember that as point 1
The metal if you follow it towards the rubber one you will find what looks like a nut. Remember that as point 2.
Once you find these, put a wrench on 1 and 2 and it should loosen up.
Yhe rubber line is "keyed" to the bracket so it should stay put. Be very careful on the line nut though as it is a "hollow" nut. You want to get a good grip on it but not crush it( like w/vise grips) Sometimes they can be very tight.
When it comes to bleeding the brakes, I usually just fill the master and open the bleeder til it flows. (gravity bleed)
I think it will help Thank you very much My original hose is split, so all my brake fluid ran out and I pretty much lost my brakes >.< not a good thing.
I don't think you can get it off the caliper with the wheel on. Make sure you put something under it though if you do take it off. Never trust a jack to hold the truck. Most of them use pretty good leverage so it makes it easier than it looks.
One more tip on the lines too. Make sure that you remove BOTH of the copper washers that you find on the end that attaches to the caliper and use 2 new ones. It WILL leak if you don''t.
