removing starter motor

i have an 81 ford f-250 automatic and i need to remove the starter motor, should there only be 2 bolts holding the starter in or is there a bracket of some sort? i have gotten 2 bolts off, but it does not want to come off. is it going to be something that needs to be pulled out or will it just drop down? thanks

it should just be the two bolts, unhook the wires, and it should come out, it may be held in by alot of junk and corrosion, mine was, *86 150* try tapping on the front housing or if you can get alil gap try prying on it with a screwdriver or prybar. hope this helps

And for good measure, disconnect the negative battery terminal first.

All good ideas. A sharp rap with a rubber hammer might break it loose.

the starter sometimes will not come right out since it sits on a lip on the front of the starter. that and the grease dirt and crap that is coating an old starter. i usually just shake it up and down. it comes out for me

Try also to wiggle it up or down rapping it as you do that, also it could be stuck on the flywheel.....
