Now that you mention it doesnt need a ground i think i have an idea on how to run a wire from the gauge to the wire that's running to the battery terminal on the alternator. Ill try something out over the weekend. I seem to have fixed the wiring issue and the alternator is charging the battery.

next is to figure out how to tune this thing. Any ideas/guidance/tips?

it's got an edelbrock 1406 carb on it. Idle is sitting around 1000, and when i drop it into reverse or drive it drops to around 700-800. Only issue is if i cruise on the freeway and exit if i dont drop it into neutral at the stop itll stall out.

Originally trucks with automatics would have had the anti-stall dashpot attached to the side of the carburetor. If you don't have one installed that can cause a vehicle to stall in those conditions. This one likely won't be correct for your current carburetor, but it's what they installed on the 2100. Different carburetors used different methods.

jjtxaz24,
I have those same heads on my 1970 429 out of a Torino GT. Good heads for cast iron heads. I have a 1964 F100 with the same motor and a C6 trans as well. What exhaust are you running on it? Headers, I'm hoping? I'm looking for a set of long tube headers that will fit that combo. What front suspension do you have in your truck?
Doug
