Recently my 2003 F250 with a 6.0 started acting like it had a plugged fuel filter. Since I was right at oil/filters change mileage I went ahead and changed everything and all was well. Ran like a top. Then I made a 1,600 mile trip to pick up a trailer and had no issues at all. But the day after returning while taking the trailer to leave it at where I was going to store it I stop at a red light and the trucks starts to shake and shudder like it was going to die. When the light turns green and I step on the accelerator it just does nothing. I stick it in neutral and try to give it some fuel but it just continues to shudder and does not reve up in rpm so I put it back in drive (auto) and hold the accelerator on the floor. It slowly started to move and I mean slowly! After the truck got over a small rise at the light it started to gain speed but at a snails pace. Then all of a sudden it took off and has ran fine since with no problems. The truck only has 70,000 plus miles as it is only used to tow my broncos around from place to place mainly. Anyone else have an issue like this or any suggestions where to start looking?
Sounds like you had something restrict the flow and work it’s way through.
I hope that is all it was. I stopped by Auto Zone today and had them hook their dohickey up to the computer and check for error codes and it came back with none and it still hasn't happened again. Fingers crossed.
Does the 6.0 have a fuel bowl drain like the 7.3L? If it does did you drain the bowl first before replacing filter? A member in the 7.3L forum changed his fuel filter without draining it, had debris plug and had a no start...that’s why I ask.

If it has one other than where the filters go I'm not aware of it. Be great if that was all it was because it is giving me fits again. Left this morning to go wheeling towing the bronco and started same thing again. Twice. I turned around and came back home. I believe it is getting air into the fuel systems some how but I'm not sure. Getting bummed!
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? That could help narrow things down.
I was getting something similar and I pulled out the EGR valve and it was covered in soot. after cleaning it and putting some miles on the truck it seems that all is well again.
