I read this morning that Honda is thinking about building pickups for the U.S./Canada market. Domestic manufacturers had better hope that this does not happen because if they do (based on their track record), their truck will look good, run good, be reliable and long lasting, have better fit and finish and better resale value. Maybe it will be a wake up call for the domestics.

For small pickups - yes - viable competition. But the diesels? Probably not. I hope it does give us a wake up call. It means that better trucks from all manufacturers are coming soon!!!
I read in Car and Driver that the biggest HP race since the muscle cars is on...
So far, the Nissan Titan (coming in a few months) has more power, better MPG, more space, more everything, than anything Ford or GM is offering. I hope Ford is spooked. If Honda started building something to compete with the F150, Ford would just quit altogether.
There's no way Ford, GM, and Chrysler can compete with Honda & Toyota.
That comment about Honda's looking good was true up until they made the Element. As long as it doing look like that thing. Nothing can be uglier than that.

Don't be too quick to count Ford out. After the Taurus lost its "Best-Seller" crown to Toyota and Honda, they are well aware of what can happen. Competition is a good thing and ultimately delivers good products to the consumer.
As far as the Titan goes, we'll just have to see. IMHO, I think it is butt ugly.
The US car companys need to get there act together, now that import companys besides toyota are making trucks, we need to step it up a few noches in a sense, i still think more people would rather have a full size ford then a full size nissan or honda.

Not that I've heard of. AFAIK, the only engine available is a 5.6L V8, supposed to be "over 300HP", whatever that means. Knowing how marketing works, it'll probably be 301HP.
EDIT: on second thought, I think I remember reading somewhere that Nissan is looking into a diesel for the Titan. Probably in 2007, though.

I certainly hope the competition is as healthy as we'd like to see it - Ford's got enough muscle to do anything they want. I'd like to see them stomp Honda. Not because I dislike Honda, but because I'd want the best for Ford!
As far as the TItan's looks go, I agree only because I think the grille looks kinda funky. I have a feeling that most trucks are going to start looking like that, though.
I remember when I first saw a Denali, and I thought "Whoa....it's a Jetsons truck!". Now everybody's going with that kind of design (the squared off art-deco look).
I think it's going to be an interesting year in the truck industry!

I agree 100%

If honda decides to build a light truck I hope that they might consider putting the V10 diesel that VW has developed. V10 turbo diesel , 555 ft.#'s torque, 305 HP. I'll bet it would keep up with the 6.0 .......sk
I believe that it will take a while before nissan/honda are able to develop a "full size" truck let a lone a diseal. For those two to now enter the fullsize market with companies that have been doing it for 80+ years will be difficult and take years to get right, granted nissan has a head start due to the Frontier, it will still take them a little while till they get it right.
If i remember right the Titan's powerband is nowhere near as low as the f-150.
A Honda truck would be well recieved but you wont see it selling numbers like Ford. People buy a Ford and beat it to death. You couldn't afford to beat a Honda to death, the difference in maintenance costs would kill you.
