Fuel Tank Compatability
I have a '72 F100 with the in cab fuel tank. I would like to replace the in cab tank to a frame mounted one. I have access to a fuel tank from a '77 F100. Will this be a direct swap or will it require major modifications?

I adapted a rear frame tank off a 76 ford to fit my 69 4x4. All it took was a couple of pieces of angle iron. However the tank does hang below the frame rails. Clearance was not a problem on my 4x4 but it might be a problem on a 4x2. I wanted dual tanks so i kept my in cab tank too. I also pulled all of the fuel lines and dual tank selector wiring from the donor truck. There was a difference in the size of the metal fuel lines so I had to do a little fabricating there as well. If you can pre fit the tank before you purchase it you might find it'll work for you.
