Alternator light on when cold
When I first crank the truck, the alternator light comes on and stays for about 45-80 seconds. Any idea what can cause this? Its the original 36 amp unit, and I am sure it is on its way out, so I will replace it with a higher output unit. Any thoughts on my "current" (pun intended......well i thought it was funny...)alt ernator or suggestoins on a new one??

Cold belt slipping? Unless you are running more accessories than your "current" alternator is designed to support I wouldn't bother replacing it with a high output unit. There is nothing to gain in doing so.

hmmm, maybe the "current" unit is about shot. The belts not slipping, but at idle, the CD player (50 watts total) cuts in and out... with or without the light. It charges 14.2 volts when running. Guess I will drive it till it quits.
