I have discovered that when I have my headlights switched to auto that randomly there are times that the upper passenger light will not turn on with the rest of the lights. I could flash my high beams or turn the switch from auto to on back to auto and then the upper passenger light with turn on and stay on like it should. Being that my Truck still has the original bumper to bumper, I make an appointment to have this looked at. I am told there there is an add on harness for the lights for a snowplow. And that if I have no intentions of adding a snowplow that I should just remove that harness because that is what is causing the problem. I opted not to have it removed because they wanted 125.00 to do so. Not that I'm being cheap, but the service writer refused to promise that this was the reason for the issue and that if I did pay for the removal of the harness and it didn't solve the problem I wouldn't be refunded the money for miss-diagnosis. I couldn't even get the service writer to tell me that now I brought the truck in for this issue and if I had followed their recommendation and it didn't fix the problem that the bumper to bumper would still cover the issue. Kind of frustrated over the situation. So I ask has anybody ever heard of the SnowPrep package monkeying with the headlights like this? BTW I did replace the bulb.
Did you modify the truck at all electrically or tuned?. If not they are full of bs. Call and tell for they are refusing to cover it under bumper to bumper. Maybe they are wanting to double dip and have you pay and behind your back charge ford for labor via bumper to bumper?
I have done nothing to the truck but as mud flaps and weather tech type floor mats. And to add to the suspiciuosness in the paper work I have from the dealer I bought it from, the snowplow prep was and added option do this is a factory option installed. Talk about looking shady.
The snowplow prep package doesn't actually change any electrical connections. It changes the springs up front. Did you buy the truck used? If the service writer said there is a snowplow wiring harness it was aftermarket. Most snow plow harnesses have clips that clip into the factory harness so it definitely could cause an issue.

I did buy it used and thank you for the clarification on what the snowplow prep package is. So yes then there is a snowplow harness that is plugged into the factory harness. I have peeked behind the grill to see if I could visually locate it with no luck.
Sounds like the previous owner added the harness. Did they possibly leave any info on the plow kit in the glove box, owners manual, or center console? If not, I would do some research on where some of the popular kits tie into the factory wiring to start your troubleshooting. Sounds to me like a shotty install thats causing a short in your headlight harness.

No problem, they probably pulled most of the harness and left the clips on the ford factory light harness which aren’t water proof and causing the short. If they did leave the harness keep the harness and sell it. You could get a few hundred bucks for it depending on the brand.

The only thing that I can not get my mind wrapped around is this being a short. I say this because I have never had the light not work, just when in auto turn on setting. If need be I will look into it in the summer if need be when I am not standing out in the cold.

These trucks are so sensitive to electrical loads that it doesn’t surprise me. I just noticed your from Michigan, I’m from Grand Rapids actually.

Have you ever switched it into the "manual on" mode after noticing the light's out?

Well, I can understand why they want to charge you even though it`s still under warranty. The vehicle is used so they have no idea what the previous owner has done or had done to it. I`d say it would be money well spent to let the dealer figure it out and make it normal. Just chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Maybe take it to a plow dealer (any brand) to look at. They might spot something simple. May have to pay them a little bit, but it may be worth it if they fix it properly.
