You have a point there, but I just went 5 years and 87,000 miles in a 5.0 F150 without any problems, but now only 1300 on the new Super Duty.
If i did buy an F150 it would be the 5.0, Im not so sure about squeezing all the power out of a v6 and expecting long term durability, i wonder how the maintenace, performance and reliability will be when all that squeezing and pushing starts wearing on those rod and crank bearings not to mention the piston rings and head gaskets. I havent looked on the 150 forums to read about them so i could be wrong, myself. gimme a v8, with instant torque.
That's why I picked the V8...sure it's couple of horsepower less but it doesn't have a turbo and a V6 is putting more force on each piston. Here is a simplified comparison using some easy numbers. If each engine made the same amount of power the V6 piston has to do 30% more work. Even if the engines can last the same, I bet the V6 will need a turbo replaced. Problem with a turbo is that it keeps spinning after the oil pump stops with the engine being shut off.
Pick an F150 with the interior and engine you like, then change anything on the outside to make it perfect. I think it's most important to like getting into the vehicle rather than just driving one that make sense. I only moved up to a Super Duty for improved towing and the possibility of adding a slide in camper.
Glad to see a couple other Toyota converts in this thread. Three years ago, bought a Taco instead of an F150. Didn't need the extra capability, and a mid-level trim Tacoma ran me all of $30k. Maybe $29k LOL... it was a lot less than a 150! Didn't have anything to tow then, bed is smaller but has been enough. Interior as nice as an XLT, not as nice as a Lariat and up. I have liked it a lot, especially the six-speed stick; but, that will be all I miss in a few months.
We just bought a Rockwood fifth wheel and ordered an F350 Lariat last Sat. I am major looking forward to moving up to the big truck! Have to say, never considered anything but a Ford for towing the 5er. We are really looking forward to hitting the road with the truck and camper next year.
I also had a '14 Tundra and switched over to a '17 XL F350 -- this is my first Ford vehicle ever. Tundra was great and very reliable but not a SD. I still have my '17 Tacoma as a DD.

My girl is a toyota nut, she will buy nothing else, but after having a fire in her older caravan and fith ave, oh and her diesel oldsmobile( remember those p os ‘s) i guess i cant blame her, but she loves this F250
My work has a lot of Toyota trucks, cars, and SUVs in their fleet. Pretty reliable machines, except for the electronics. Lots of problems with the nav systems, power and USB connections, radios, bluetooth connections, etc. They certainly aren't terrible, but I'm thinking Toyota has slipped a bit in the reliability department these days...
