Tune

Hey all. I am considering a tune on my stock 17 F250 SD. I live in Cali but I can use an out of state address and have someone send it to me. I tow a 14,000 lb trailer occasionally. I am looking for something to wake up the truck. I don't like the throttle lag and would like to actually feel some of the power the motor has. Im not racing my truck and its a daily driver. I would like to also have a nice tow tune. Any opinions out there about AFE Scorcher, BDX/SCT, EDGE, GPD EZ lynk. If money and laws are not an issue and I am looking for moddest power increase, sustainability and bang for buck what should I buy?

I’d start with a pedal commander to fix the throttle lag then if you still want more look at a tune. The pedal commander alone feels like a HP tune.

I have considered that but it costs almost as much as a tuner!

I have the BDX/SCT tuner with custom tune by 5 Star Tuning. It comes with 3 custom tunes according to your bolt-ons. The 3 tunes are Performance, Tow and Trans only. Checkout their Website. https://5startuning.com/. I pulled a 8000lb travel trailer to Pigeon Forge, TN a few months ago with the tow tune going up and down the mountains. Truck performed awesome and still got 12 MPG with 35" tires. Without towing and with Performance tune, I'm getting 18.5 MPG as a daily driver.

I was also annoyed with the slight throttle lag. I used an AFE high volume air filter (dry, cleanable) for 20 years on 4 different Cummins in Dodge. I wanted the same air filter for my 2017 F250 SD. After I installed the new air filter the throttle lag was gone. It is not scientific, I did not testing. I just noticed that more air flow took away the throttle lag. Other than that my truck is absolutely stock.

If you are worried about your warranty and just want to get rid of the turbo lag I would go with AFE Scorcher module and Absolute Performance CAI. Thats the combo I had on my truck for about 6-8 months. Got rid of the turbo lag and bumped my mpg avg up from 16.3 to 18.1. Now if you want to delete I would look at Patriot tuning or Chaos tuning. They both have great customer service and great tunes. I'm personally running patriot and have had nothing but great luck out of them plus I love their OST (On Screen Tuning).

Where in CA are you located? I am in So Cal. Just purchased an Absolute Performance stage 1 Intake. Other than that, all stock (motor wise). Will report back once installed.

I've only read BAD reviews for the AFE Scorcher. No problems for you? I have been considering it as a starter setup. I am not going to delete. I have no desire so that is why I was considering EZ Link.

Nor Cal man. Let me know if the CAI makes a big difference alone.
