2004 powerstroke 6.0 f350. one day with no warnings just died and wouldnt restart. went on with day and after work it started and died immediately. had some one look at it and said starter was bad so we changed it. twice. so now new starter and fresh charged batteries and still no start. turn key and hear a clunk like starter is trying to engage. im at a loss and puzzled. any suggestions? thanks
Did you try to turn it over by hand, wrench on the crank? If it won't move then I'd pull glow plugs one at a time until it does. Start on the rear passenger side working forward. It may have inhaled coolant from a bad EGR cooler for example. When it died did it smoke?
Is this a late 04 or early 04 model year?
Didn't notice smoke. I just got truck few weeks ago and broke down week ago. Don't know really anything about it. Think I may have made a bad choice. How can I tell if early or late model

See if the ICP sensor is here on the passenger valve cover.
The sensor location just tells the rest of us which version of 2004 motor you have.
Multiple starters and the engine does not spin means you have to see if you can manually turn the crankshaft as Pete mentioned above. A starter that does not spin the crankshaft can mean one of the cylinders is flooded with fuel or coolant. So if that's the situation, no spin, you start pulling glow plugs and seeing which one has liquid escaping. If it's fuel then it's a bad fuel injector most likely. If it's coolant that comes out, then a coolant leak from either the EGR cooler or a head gasket.
ok so i had truck towed to shop for diagnostics. they said they tried manually turning motor without pulling glow plugs and it only spun 2/3 of the rotation both clockwise and counter and hard stopped. they said my motor is hydrolocked and is toast. need new motor. $21k. I basically had a heart attack and went and towed truck back home. can this be true? isnt there a fix for this?
Those are full dress with turbo, waterpump and everything inbetween, like cam and crank sensors, filters asssembly, oil and EGR coolers, intake installed, etc. Now the quality some may have issues with ...... but from a dealer service perspective it’s the lowest labor involved. The harness has to be installed.

That’s still crazy high. I am in the wrong business.
