I have a 2002 PSD with A/T. I am looking at getting either a braking chip or an exhaust break like BANKS. Which is better and does either one void the warranty. I would appriciate any suggestions. Thanks Billy
I've never heard of a breaking chip, the Banks brake can affect warranty though.
I wired up the EBPV that is already on the truck as an exhaust brake and it works great, cost about $25 as opposed to several hundred for the Banks unit and only took a couple hours to do. Try it and save yourself some money!! Check out this link for more info.
I want to try this EBPV brake. Just one question from looking at the instructions and the wiring diagram. Where do I find the tourque convertor lockup, the purple wire with the yellow tracer?
I didn't use it and mine works just fine. I would also only use a single position switch if I had it to do over again and wire it to the throttle pedal so its activated when you let off of the throttle. I added that feature to mine and that's the only position I ever use now. I never use the always on position at all.
Go and search "DIY Exhaust Brake" and you can read for a couple of days on this subject. A lot of guys there have done this and that's where I got the idea. If you need any more help, let me know and I'll try to put together a newer diagram of the way to do it with a single position switch and a relay for the throttle pedal.
