short tail shaft to a long tail shaft
i asked this question about a month agao and got no replies to it that helped. i bought a c6 for my truck ( same as in my gallery and sig) to replace the old c6 i have now, what i didnt notice til i got home was the one i bought has the long tail shaft and the one on my truck has the short tail shaft. we decided to have a shop cut down my drive shaft so i can use the long shaft tranny. but what is the difference in length. how much should i have them cut out ? It is a shop full of chebby guys and they never cut one down for a ford before. I am going to get a extra shaft out of the parts yard for them to cut down so i wont have to pull tranny til everything is ready.

Put the tranny in the truck. Measure the length from the rear tailshaft seal surface to the centerline of the rear u joint at the diff yoke. That's what I did when I had my shft cut for the long tail I put in my truck. Any driveshaft shop should be able to do it with that measurment.
Maybe you should find another shop if all they can figure out is Chevy's.

why not just swap the shafts , anyone should be able to do it in about 2hrs. This would be free (your time). to get the shafts out you need to pull the guts out of the trans as the is a c clip that holds the shaft in , but basically it's straight forward just lay everything out in the order it came out. to adjust the band torque it to 10 ftlbs. and then back it off 1and 1/2 turns.
otherwise just measure the trans fornt to back and cut off the difference.
